Parent Education And Coaching

PCES provides concrete and practical parenting strategies, new or adapted approaches, and an understandable framework. Parent Education and Coaching sessions serve you and your child. We address your specific concerns as discussed during the initial consultation and support skillful parenting that can help your child become more independent, competent and resilient.

With goals clearly established, we work together during sessions to help you recognize your child’s strengths, temperament, learning style, and understand what he or she is communicating to you from a developmental perspective, so you can implement fresh approaches that enhance your child’s overall development.

We base the “starting point” on your child’s strengths and your priorities, and individualize Parent Education and Coaching to address concerns that may include:

  • Appropriate developmental expectations and activities
  • Establishing daily routines, especially surrounding Transition times
  • Building on positive experiences and positive attention
  • Toilet training
  • Mealtime expectations
  • Positive discipline, communication and limit-setting
  • Structuring playtime and play dates, including the use of creative and age-appropriate activities and toys
  • Independent time and the importance of unstructured time
  • Power struggles and challenging behavior
  • Homework, organization and time management
  • Kindergarten readiness

Parent Education and Coaching will help you to optimize learning opportunities in everyday routines and activities, and to foster positive self-esteem, which includes helping your child cope with frustration and disappointment.

Understanding the ages and stages of a child’s development supports appropriate, healthy, and positive expectations and experiences. Parent Education and Coaching sessions will provide you with the skills and tools for encouraging independence, competence and resilience in your child.
